I Am Rare: An Introduction Poem

(audio intro, plus performance of the poem below)

I am Rare

I am poet....

there is no other way to say it, except to say that
I wrote it on the walls for all to see
plastered in the sounds of loud
because while
quiet may not be my least favorite adjective
it's certainly not one befitting to describe me
I
eat, sleep, and bleed ink
drink lyric-laced coffee in my mornings
go to bed with verses circling the moon above my head and then
dream up new ones without warning
there is poetry in
my loves, my lusts, and my sorrows
my joys might easily be defined as scripted
I can spit a piece about yesterday today
and leave it as a blueprint for tomorrow, I'm that
gifted, but still humble beyond all compare
understanding that I have God-given potential, yet my human rawness
reminds me that I'm not quite there
not done but I keep moving, musing
using what I've been given to get what I hope I deserve
one extended moment, happiness outweighing all else
...call that success,
word by word

I am poet....
