Rare Groove, Feb. 13, 2011

Andres Diaz playing the Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major

Classical music has a unique way of speaking to me like no other music.  There is this sense that the instruments are speaking.  I listen.  I attempt to decipher their words.  It is gripping.  It is intense.  And always, it is beautiful.

I feel something building in this one.  Like the strings are speaking on something yet to come.  There is an anxiousness.  Fast then slow, fast then slow.  Closing my eyes, I think of colors.  Bright, agitated colors, blinking across the darkness in my mind, similar to the scene from The Soloist when Jamie Foxx's character listens to the orchestra rehearse.  The end of this sounds like a layered promise.  Not only will something be there, but it will continue to be there.  At least until it's over.  And oddly, this makes me smile.

  1. I love the way you describe the music and I adore the cello. I'm not too great a fan of classical. I like mine bent a little. Like Ron Clearfield, or something new age. However, you made this sound dreamy enough I want to check it out....

Did you come by and pick up your award yesterday? It's still there if you want it :) Happy Sunday!

  4. @The Words Crafter...I did see it, and I am so appreciative, but I've been so distracted this week I haven't had a chance to focus on it...will come soon (hopefully tomorrow!!) Glad that you checked out this small portion of an amazing cello suite...I've been into classical since I was a kid, and even I can admit that some of it has to grow on you...lol

@Alee. Let me just say that you are dope, simply because, like me, you are not shy about using the word 'dope'!!...lol...but seriously, thank you. I really appreciate that. And from the first click onto your blog's page, you gained a new follower. I love the presentation and the first post I read!! Plus I'm a music junkie, so you'll be getting tons of comments from me!!

    Thank you both for reading!!
